Jerez May Horse Fair

It´s the right time to join at Jerez de la Frontera the most important equine Heritage event in the whole of Spain : “La Feria del Caballo de Jérez”.
Jérez is one hour away by car or train from Seville and 30 minutes from Cádiz. Once we get to Jerez we have to go to the fairground in Alvaro Domecq Avenue.

Surely we will not regret it because it is a party open without private booths and the friendly nature of Jerez guarantees that we are going back with a few friends.
To begin we stand: a Jerez we can go in just over an hour from Seville and only 40 minutes from Cadiz.
Once there, look for the Front Royal and entered the campus on Avenida Alvaro Domecq.

A good starting point is by drinking a “Fino” or “Rebujito” with a Tapa. Jerez is famous for its Sherry production. There is a wide variety of tapas: “marisco” – seafood- “tortillitas de camarones”, “pescaito frito” –fried fish-, “jamón ibérico”–iberian ham”…

The fairground holds rows of “Casetas” –individual marquee tents- ,decorated with its local style. All casetas are open to the public, so thatwe will feel from the 1st second like a local. We can´t miss the following
casetas: “Hermandades de la Semana Santa” –brotherhoods of Easter-: LaCandelaria, Lanzada, Soledad, Veracruz and La Yedra…

We shall prefer to listen some spontaneous flamenco: “Peñas” –Clubs- arethe right place; at “Peña Los Cernícalos” we will listen the best “bulerías” from Jérez.
Many spaniards come dressed with their typical Andalusian costumes and this together with the flamenco dancing, singing and clapping will create a bucolic atmosphere that will delight us.
“Bar Juanito” and “Peña Amigos del Cañizo” won´t disappoint us !!

The equine Heritage event shows the daunting feats performed by Spanish Purebreds and Andalusian thoroughbreds. We will be surprised at the sheer quality of the displays, from dressage to showjumping and vaulting.

After all the equestrian action, stop off for a sherry in one of the many marquees set up.

Being part of this Fair is an amazing experience we won´t ever forget !!
